1. How is EV charging time calculated?
The calculator determines the total energy needed (in kWh) based on your battery size and required charge percentage. It then divides this by the charger's power (kW). We also include a ~10% efficiency loss margin, as real-world charging loses some energy to heat.
2. What is "Charger Power (kW)"?
Charger power is the speed at which electricity is transferred. A standard home plug provides around 3.3 kW, a home wallbox charger provides 7.2 kW, while public DC fast chargers can provide 30 kW, 50 kW, or even more.
3. Why does my EV charge slower after 80%?
To protect the battery's health, EV systems automatically slow down the charging speed once the battery reaches 80%. While our calculator gives a linear estimate, expect the last 20% to take slightly longer than calculated in real life.
